Snottier Than a Cold-Ridden 6-Year Old…

Having upper jaw surgery? Be prepared to be snottier than a cold-ridden 6-year old. What can you do about it? Read on…

Hey..i just had upper jaw surgery monday the 26th this is the 3rd attempt to close my open bite..and i was wonderin wht can i do to get tht swelling out of my nasal passageway i mean its really hard to breathe esp. At night i wake up coughin and chocking. And how do i get rid of all tht nasty bloodly discharge in my nose

Hey Amber!

You know why you have all that discharge and blood right? Because your poor sinuses got sawed! The snot production (not to mention residual bleeding) is happening as a reaction to the extreme trauma of your upper jaw surgery.

If you haven’t already, you should check out this previous post I wrote about nasal goo and sinus swelling. It’s tough, and (worst answer EVER, I’m sorry) it just takes time.

That said, if you take steps to reduce your overall swelling, it will help the sinus swelling go away more quickly. And, if your sinus swelling is reduced, that’s less reactionary mucus and general stuffiness that you’ll have to deal with.

Congratulations on being post-op, and here’s to hoping that the third time’s a charm!

ps - Be very very glad I saved you from the absolutely disgusting image from Google image search that I could have inserted into this post…
