Profile and Front View - 5 Days After Upper Jaw Surgery
So, I think that today might be my peak in swelling. At least, I’m hoping so. I saw my surgeon today for a post-op follow-up and, instead of telling me how awesome I am and that I’m breaking recovery records, he made a joke about how I look like Richard Nixon.
Yikes! Richard Nixon was a terrible dude! What he meant, I’m guessing, was that, thanks to the Earth’s gravitational pull, my swelling is starting to sag, thus creating some lovely jowls next to my mouth.
Oh well, I kind of got a kick out of getting weird stares from all the normal people at the J.Crew I happened by today.

Hey, Dr. Li jokes with you way more than with me. I didn’t get any president jokes =(
Did he say anything about the broken bands? I bet he thought it was a good sign that you’ve been feeling good enough to “eat”.
Sadly, I’m actually not positive it was a total joke.
He didn’t mention the broken bands at all, and I even convinced him to lighten up on the next set.
It was a bit confusing about the eating … at first he said, “Don’t eat at all!” and then, when I asked about soft food like mashed potatoes, he said, “Oh, you can have soft foods.”
I think the main thing is, even if I don’t feel pain, it’s really key to play it safe. No ‘tongue chewing’ or moving to fish and pasta just yet!
I had jowls too!
I’m so glad I found your blog! I just had surgery four days ago and my swelling isn’t better yet.. I’m lying in bed reading your blog and enjoying the fact that things is going to get better after all these pain!! I just hope my swelling gets better ugh!
