Momentous Occasion! 2 Weeks Post-Jaw Surgery
A quick tri-shot. My swelling is almost all gone, and I can make big smiles again. Today I sort of ‘ate’ a very soft scone (shhh… don’t tell Dr. Li, my dentist, or my Chinese medical practitioner!), was semi-productive while working from home, and started feeling nostalgic for the good old jaw surgery days…

yum! I hope to have scones soon. I will load it with Jam and Cream and have it with a cup of tea.
Do you all feeling back on your face?
wow. you look wonderful. =)
what an amazing recovery you are having. I can’t believe it’s only been 2 weeks. It doesn’t even look like you had surgery!!!
That is the most geuine two week smile~ totally with Holly in her observation of not even looking like you’ve had surgery (though I’m sure you still feel it on occassion)
ps. Wouldn’t even dream of telling, heehee
Hi Jen - Yes, I like to load my buttery scones with additional butter too. I tell myself it makes them softer so I don’t have to chew them.
As for numbness, I never had numbness on my face. I only felt it (and still feel it) inside my mouth, on my upper palate. When I brush my upper teeth, for example, I feel nothing except pressure on my jaw (no gum feelings, etc). Perhaps this is because it was upper jaw advancement only.
Holly and Katherine - I don’t even feel as if I had surgery two weeks ago! To be honest, there’s a teeny letdown since I built up this whole process to be such a huge thing.
My jaw still feels strangely disconnected from my head (because it is!), so I’m very careful even though I look and seem normal.
Thank you for the kind comments and compliments!
Totally agree with the others - you really do look like normal again. Normal and great. Unbelievable really.
Do you still get the loose jaw/pressure feeling if you press on your cheeks?
What about when you suck on things? I was eating chocolate chips last night and it turns out you have to suck pretty hard to get melted chocolate off the roof of your mouth - at least it felt that way. Ditto eating yogurt this morning. I didn’t realize how much sucking is involved in normal eating. And every time I do it, I get a funny pressurized feeling in my face and there’s a little click. Scary!
I do still get the pressure feeling doing all those exact activities that you listed, Laura.
I’m seeing Dr.Li today so I’ll see if he officially approved me chew gently and brush (so I don’t have to live a lie anymore).
Sucking out of narrow straws (as opposed to those big ones they use for pearl tea) is still difficult, but not really painful-just stiff.
Hope you have a good news appointment today!
Would you do it again? I have upper and lower scheduled for tomorrow and am getting a little (lot) nervous about it.
