And here I am! No smile, so you can see the general structure of my face… no more swelling whatsoever, and a much more narrow lower face overall (eg, no chronic swelling / TMJ from chewing!).
For comparison, remember this photo of me from 3 weeks after jaw surgery?

hey I was wondering how long was it before jaw surgery from your first appointment cause I want to have jaw surgery this summer but my first meeting is at the end of march. I already have straight teeth and my underbite is not as bad.
Hi Christine,
Your teeth may appear straight, but it’s really not a matter of cosmetic ’straightness’ — it’s more about the alignment of your teeth to your new, post-surgery bite. That usually takes awhile, anywhere from 9 months to 2 years, depending on the person. Jaw surgery is a big deal! If it is right for you, then it will definitely be worth it, but you can’t rush it.
I know how you feel — you just want to get it done! But, trust me, it will turn out much better if you follow the correct process and take it one step at a time. It’s your face and your smile after all! Do it right.
